Email Deliverability: Focus on Domain Reputation and Authentication

Your email deliverability depends on two main things:

1
Your domain reputation
2
Your domain authentication

What is Domain Reputation?

Your domain reputation is based on how you’ve been sending emails. It’s affected by these five factors:

1
Email format: poorly coded HTML templates can hurt your reputation.
2
Volume & consistency: sending large batches of emails suddenly or at random times can lower your reputation, as it’s similar to spammer behavior.
3
Complaints: when recipients mark your emails as spam, it damages your reputation.
4
Bounce rate: sending emails to invalid addresses can harm your reputation.
5
Blacklists: if your domain is marked as spam, ISPs will blacklist it and reduce your deliverability.

Have I Been Blacklisted?

You can check if you’ve been blacklisted using an online tool.

  • If your reputation is good, you’re all set to boost your email outreach.
  • If you’re blacklisted, it can be hard to fix. You’ll need to contact the companies that blacklisted you and ask them to remove you.

How to Keep a Good Domain Reputation?

Follow these tips to maintain your reputation:

1
Don’t send emails to unverified addresses.
2
Use a tool to send emails at a consistent pace.
3
Make sure people can opt-out to reduce spam complaints.

Domain Authentication

Domain authentication proves to email providers that you’re the real sender.

Think of it as your domain’s ID card. It also helps prevent email spoofing, where someone pretends to be you.

Setting Up Authentication

To authenticate your domain, you need to set up:

1
Sender policy framework (SPF)
2
Domain keys identified mail (DKIM)

Setting these up isn’t too technical and will improve your deliverability.

By managing your domain reputation and authentication, you can achieve better deliverability and build strong relationships through email outreach.
