Optional steps that auto-skip when overdue

Leads can get stuck on a step when a channel limit blocks it (like a LinkedIn daily quota) or when manual tasks pile up faster than reps can work through them. You can now mark any action step as optional so it doesn't hold up the rest of the sequence.

In the sequence builder, step settings include a "Mark as optional" toggle. Enabling it reveals "Skip after X days if not executed" (minimum 1 day). If the step still hasn't been executed or sent by that deadline, it's automatically skipped and the lead moves to the next step.

  • The countdown starts from the step's original due date. Executing the step on the deadline day itself still counts as done, no skip happens.

  • Skipped steps show up as "Skipped" in reports and activities.

  • Optional steps carry an "Optional" tag in the tree (edit, review, and view modes), with a tooltip explaining how it works.

  • Available on emails, LinkedIn, calls, SMS, and WhatsApp steps. Not available on call an API, push to campaign, enrichment, or condition steps.
