How to set up SPF record to protect your email domain

An SPF record (Sender Policy Framework) is an email authentication system that ensures the emails from your domain come from you.

Technically, you don't have to set up an SPF record to send emails. But it adds a layer of security to your campaigns, which makes you more trustworthy and helps you avoid spam.

It’s a type of DNS TXT (Domain Name System ”text”) with a list of APIs, software, etc., that you’ve approved to send messages on your behalf:

Here's how to set up an SPF record (if your provider is Google) & boost your email deliverability:

[  ] Sign in to your domain account on your domain host's site

(GoDaddy, Squarespace, Namecheap, etc.)

[  ] Go to the page for updating your domain’s DNS records

(DNS Management, Name Server Management, or Advanced Settings)

[  ] Find your TXT records to check if there's an existing SPF record

If the answer is yes, don't delete it, as this can cause issues with other tools you use. Instead, you can include more providers in your existing SPF!

For example, if you already have an SPF that includes Salesforce, it might look like this: v=spf1 include:_spf.salesforce.com ~all

If you want to include Google in this SPF as your email provider, you can modify it to: v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com include:_spf.salesforce.com ~all

[  ] Create a TXT record with these values

→ Name/Host/Alias: enter @ or leave blank

→ Other DNS records for your domain might indicate the correct entry

→ Time to Live (TTL): enter 3600 or leave the default value

→ Value/Answer/Destination: enter v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all
