Why did this outreach campaign work?

We love a good cold email teardown. In other words, analyzing why a specific cold email template worked and breaking it down to the smallest details so that both a beginner and an advanced player can extract value from it.

Without further ado, let's get rolling.

Turn your offer into their opportunity. 😇

Let's imagine a scenario. You're offering LinkedIn Marketing services to people who want to build their personal brand here. Think of me (Vuk writing :) as your potential client.

Now, if you start explaining me what kind of services are included in your LinkedIn package, how much they cost, and promising me some audacious goals you'll reach on my behalf, chances are you'll lose my attention fast.

Not because I'm some fancy hotshot, but because people don't like being sold to that much. Especially several times during the day, in a busy inbox, by the people they never met before.

If you want to truly hook me, you should help me visualize what would a strong LinkedIn profile do for me as the Head of Growth at lemlist, for lemlist as a company, and probably for me personally.

So you're not talking about your service per se, you're storytelling about the value it brings to me. That's where the custom tags you can see above come into the picture. They allow you to create unique emails, tailored for each prospect individually, increasing your reply rate as a result.

Visualize the path to glory.

I've tested this approach for lemlist in the early days. The image helped me drive two outcomes. Showcase one of lemlist's core features (personalized images), but also help my prospects visualize how lemlist contributes to their world.

The logo in the circle would become their company's logo, illustrating where they'd be at after adding lemlist to their cold email mix. At that time it was something fresh, but also aligned with our brand bringing me nice success.

I had variations with profile pics instead of company logos which I used for VPs of bigger companies. On that note, the version that produced the highest reply rate was the one where I've added a link below where the plan was outlined. But be careful to make that plan actionable and value-oriented, rather than add some additional sales asks.

What can we learn from this cold email template?
  • Forget features and services. Focus on what they bring to the table for your prospect
  • Use research to figure out the prospect's objective and how your product/service can help them achieve it
  • Visualize the story and build credibility with actionable proposals or relevant case studies
