Subject: <fancy>{{firstName}}<fancy> - We need a project manager

Hey <fancy>{{firstName}}<fancy>,

We need an electrical project manager and decided to reach out to you after locating your information on LinkedIn.

We have a few new large residential development projects that we just won and need additional project managers. The projects will be located in central/northern NJ.

Is this opportunity something you would consider discussing further? ’

Looking forward,

Why did this outreach campaign work?

We love a good cold email teardown. In other words, analyzing why a specific cold email template worked and breaking it down to the smallest details so that both a beginner and an advanced player can extract value from it.

Without further ado, let's get rolling.

A subject line is your newspaper headline.

With the perfect targeting taken care of, your next objective is to set the expectation with your subject line. For example, anybody who opened Andrew's email is already interested a bit.

To write the perfect subject line, it comes down to a few things. Number one, is it intriguing enough to open it? Next, is it relevant to what the prospects are about to read in your email? Finally, is it short enough so that people can see it both on desktop and mobile?

Nail these three things and you're going to do just fine.

Be persistent with your follow-ups.

Even if you have the coolest of cold emails, people sometimes forget to reply or are busy at that moment. Just because a prospect or candidate doesn't reply to the first email, that doesn't mean they are not interested. Ultimately, you'll never know the right reason until you get some kind of feedback from your lead.

Andrew's first follow-up doubled the number of replies he got and, as you can see, the email is pretty simple. Like in any other craft, persistence matters.

What can we learn from this campaign?

  • It's super important to perfect subject line copywriting
  • Follow-ups are an essential ingredient in any cold email campaign
